MAY EVENTS AT THE LIBRARY
Summit County Library & Park City Library present One Book One Community 2026 - Go As a River by Shelley Read
The historical fiction novel Go As a River is set against the backdrop of Iola, Colorado, and the Nash family’s famous peach farm. The real-life construction of the Blue Mesa Reservoir eventually submerged Iola, displacing the main character Victoria from her family’s farm, along with her neighbors. Go As a River explores themes of love and loss, resilience, and the power of nature amidst events that resonate with our own local history. About 70 years ago, the Summit County town of Rockport experienced a similar fate as Iola, and the Wasatch County towns of Keetley, Hailstone, and Jordanelle were also submerged by 1993 with the completion of the Jordanelle Reservoir.
The ebook and audiobook of Go As a River are available on Libby and we have multiple copies of the book available to check out at all of our branches.
Author Shelley Read will visit the community on Thursday, July 30 at 7:00 PM in the Jim Santy Auditorium at the Park City Library. The purpose of One Book One Community is for the community to have meaningful conversations about the same book. Look for discussions and supporting events for One Book One Community throughout the summer leading up to Shelley Read’s visit.
One Book One Community is supported by Friends of the Park City Library, Friends of the Summit County Library, and Dolly’s Bookstore.

Emerging Issues is an adult discussion program that includes pre-readings, viewing a video together in class, then breaking into small discussion groups. This month the topic is Exploring the Invisible Rules that Guide Behavior and How Quickly They Can Change. Norms are the unwritten rules of life. They are the shared expectations—often invisible—that tell us what is acceptable, what is questionable, what is admirable, and what crosses a line. Long before something becomes a law, a policy, or a headline, it usually exists first as a norm. We begin the 2026 Emerging Issues Series with Norms because norms operate upstream of everything else we will discuss this year. View preview video here. Hosted by Bob Shallenberg, space is limited and registration is required.
