Old Church at Rockport State Park | Thurs, June 18 | 6:30 PM

*Location: The Old Church at Rockport State Park - 2719 South Rockport Rd.

This year’s One Book One Community selection, Go As a River by Shelly Read, is set against the backdrop of Iola, Colorado and the Gunnison River. The real-life construction of the Blue Mesa Reservoir eventually submerged Iola, displacing the main character Torie from her family’s farm, along with her neighbors. About 70 years ago, the Summit County town of Rockport experienced a similar fate with the damming of the Weber River and construction of Rockport Reservoir. The novel examines what happens when development and modernization erase communities tied to the land. As a local tie-in to Go as a River, we will be fortunate to hear from Alan Siddoway about his family’s experience in the town of Rockport before it was submerged under Rockport Reservoir. Join us to learn more about this important historical event in Summit County.
